First, you need 2 AAA batteries (not included in the box) for the remote and charge the cat. My cat already had scratches on the heart design on the legs (so not sure if its just a minor manufacturer defect or if it was a return), which I dont mind since its not a gift. Make sure to keep the instructions paper so you can get used to how to use it.Press the nose for 3 sec to turn it on. Short press to change the eye color/mode. Theres 3 modes. Blue is remote mode & hand gesture mode. Red is adventure mode (explores by itself). Purple is treat mode or program sequence using the 6 fish treats corresponding to a different action (can program up to 30 actions). Our remote controller worked well. Cat can walk through our tiles and even on the carpet. Treat mode worked well too! My lil one loves to play with the little fish treats since hes still getting comfortable with the cat lol. He likes it more when its not moving. Lol.I love that its a mini introduction to programming for kids with the Treat Mode. For the adventure mode, it was cool to see it dodge some obstacles. Although sometimes it can still get stuck. Gesture mode is not as accurate but not a big deal for us. This is definitely a good toy to gift esp for kids who wants a pet but cant lol
